Bodrum

Bays of different character along the peninsula: the windy north coast for surfing, the sheltered southern bays for SUP and kayaking.

Choosing a bay by the wind

On the Bodrum peninsula the wind decides where you do what. The north coast — the Gümüşlük and Yalıkavak line — takes the meltemi head-on and suits windsurfing. The sheltered southern bays are calm water for paddleboarding and kayaking.

Rental operators know this split and stock accordingly. When choosing a listing, which coast the pickup point is on matters as much as the equipment itself.

Season and crowds

July and August are the peak for both prices and crowds. June and September are markedly quieter and cheaper while the sea is still warm — the best balance for water sports.

For campervans the peninsula is narrow and busy, so campsites need arranging in advance. Roadside overnighting is enforced in season.
