Licence and weight: the first thing to check

The first question in campervan rental is not romantic but technical: which licence covers the vehicle? In Türkiye a category B licence covers vehicles up to 3,500 kg maximum laden weight. Most camper vans on the market sit below that; larger motorhomes need C1.

Towed caravans are more involved: once the combined weight of the towing vehicle and the trailer exceeds 3,500 kg, category B is not enough and BE is required. The listing should state the vehicle's maximum laden weight. If it does not, asking in the message screen beats being turned away on collection day.

Mileage limits, deposit and camping equipment

Three hidden line items shape the price. First, the mileage limit: 150–250 km a day is common, with excess charged per kilometre. If you are planning a route from western to eastern Türkiye, an unlimited-mileage listing usually works out cheaper.

Second, the deposit. Campervans are high-value vehicles and deposits can be substantial; it is not part of the rental price but it affects your cash flow. Third, camping equipment: table, chairs, awning, kitchen set and bedding are included in some listings and an add-on package in others.

Where you can stay in Türkiye

The most-asked question about campervan rental is where to sleep. Campsites in Türkiye fall into three groups: official forest campgrounds, private caravan parks and municipality-permitted areas. Electricity, water and grey-water disposal are the three services that actually make a difference, and sites offering them charge per night.

Overnighting on beaches, roadsides or private land without permission is prohibited in many places and enforced in season. Marking campsites on the route in advance is a far better plan than looking for a spot after dark. Sapanca, Cappadocia and the Aegean–Mediterranean coast have the most developed caravan infrastructure.
