First time on snow: two hours with an instructor

Learning your first day from a friend means acquiring habits you will spend a year unlearning. A two-hour basics lesson delivers four things: stance, the snowplough stop, a controlled turn, and — the one most people skip — how to fall and get back up. Without those, a day on the slope is fatigue rather than progress.

Be realistic about duration. For a beginner, more than two or three hours a day is wasted; once the legs go, learning stops. A good plan is two hours a day for three consecutive days.

Private or group?

Group lessons cost less per person and are sociable; progressing alongside people at your level is motivating. But the instructor's attention is divided and the pace is set by the slowest person in the group.

A private lesson costs more and gives you all of the time, at your own pace. For an intermediate skier trying to fix one specific fault, private is almost always more efficient — an hour of targeted correction beats three days of trial and error.

Children are a separate case. Teaching 4- to 8-year-olds is its own specialism; when an instructor profile states experience with children, that signal is worth more than a certificate.

Choosing an instructor in Pistrun

Each instructor profile states the lessons offered and their levels, the languages spoken, lesson lengths and prices, the resort they work at and their available days. Profiles do not go live until an administrator approves them.

If equipment is not part of the lesson package, you can reserve a rental listing for the same day. The booking screen warns you about date conflicts, so you do not have to track lesson time and pickup time separately.
