Kars
Sarıkamış
Runs cut through Scots pine forest and famously dry snow — the most distinctive ski area in Türkiye.
Crystal snow and forest runs
Thanks to very low humidity, the snow at Sarıkamış is drier than anywhere else in Türkiye. Runs cut through Scots pine forest, which is as practical as it is scenic: the wind drops inside the trees.
Dry snow changes equipment too. Less friction than wet snow means a faster surface; for a beginner the first day feels quicker than expected. Here again a helmet is standard equipment.
Distance requires planning
Sarıkamış belongs to Kars and is reached by air from western Türkiye. That distance makes arranging equipment in advance more important than elsewhere: if your size is not available on arrival, driving to an alternative shop is not simple.
The region also carries other winter tourism — Kars, Lake Çıldır and the historic site of Ani are close enough for a non-ski day. For visitors arriving by campervan, winter conditions demand serious planning.
