A resort for day trips
Kartepe's real strength is distance: leaving Istanbul or Kocaeli in the morning and being home in the evening is realistic. That makes it extremely busy on the first weekends after snowfall, and there booking equipment is less about skipping a queue than about finding equipment at all.
The altitude is lower than at the eastern resorts, so the season is shorter and snow quality more sensitive to the weather. Checking current conditions before setting off matters here in particular.
Who it suits
Kartepe is a good starting point for first-timers and for families with children. The runs are not as long as at the bigger resorts, which is an advantage for a beginner.
