Skiing with children: equipment and the first day
There is one rule in children's ski gear: leave no growing room. A long ski and a big boot make learning harder, not easier.

On a ski trip, picking the dates saves more money than picking the resort. The season's rhythm repeats every year.
A ski trip costs three things: accommodation, a lift pass and equipment rental. All three move on the same calendar, and that calendar peaks in almost the same weeks every year.
| Period | Roughly | Price | Snow |
|---|---|---|---|
| Season opening | Early to mid December | Lowest | Variable; lower runs may be closed |
| New Year and school holidays | Week of 31 December; late Jan – early Feb | Peak | Usually good |
| Mid season | Early to mid January, late February | Middle | The best snow of the year |
| Late season | March – April | Low | Still good at high resorts |
Equipment prices swing less sharply than accommodation, because a shop's inventory is fixed. But there are two indirect effects. In busy weeks, discounts and package rates disappear. More importantly, the remaining sizes narrow — so you pay the same money for equipment that does not quite fit.
March still delivers good snow at high-altitude resorts while prices fall. At resorts with a base above 2,000 m — Erciyes and Palandöken among them — March is, in most years, a more reliable snow bet than December.
The trade-off is the daily temperature swing: hard snow in the morning, softened by afternoon. The practical response is to start early and finish early. It also shifts the clothing calculation — in March sun, a 15,000 mm shell earns its keep more than it does in December.
Most Turkish resorts run on weekend demand. Tuesday to Thursday, both the pistes and the rental counters are noticeably quieter. At resorts within day-trip range of a big city — Kartepe and Uludağ especially — that gap is at its widest: the same run is a different experience on a Wednesday than on a Saturday.

Snowboarding has a steeper learning curve than skiing: day one is hard, day three is fun. Setting the expectation matters more than the equipment.
